Echo Park Residents Help Restore Lummis Home

El Alisal, Charles Lummis’ historic home in Highland Park, recently received a new window designed and built by Echo Park-based United Environment Architecture. Charles Lummis, early preservation advocate, renowned columnist and founder of the Southwest Museum, built El Alisal from local arroyo stone and other found materials between 1897 and 1910. Today, the house is open as a museum hosted by the Historical Society of Southern California. Using surviving original windows as a template, United Environment Architecture built a new window using methods accurate to Lummis’ construction of the house.
