Take A Walk Into the Past

The purpose of these tours is to raise awareness of Echo Park history and of significant neighborhood landmarks. Three different tours will be offered on a rotating basis. Please refer to Tour Descriptions, Schedule and Reservations sections of this page for details.

Special Tours

Please contact us for organizing tours for schools and other groups that are not part of our regular schedule.

Echo Park Lake

The Echo Park Lake tour will include some of the neighborhood’s most prominent landmarks, such as Jensen’s Recreation Center, Angelus Temple and, of course, the lake. The tour takes about two hours to complete and includes several stairways.  Building interiors are not included.

Currently there are no tours scheduled.

Echo Park Stairways

The Echo Park Stairways tour includes the Baxter Stairs (possibly the city’s longest) as well as Fellowship Park, Red Hill and the modernist Harwell Harris house. This is a modestly strenuous tour that includes one long stairway and several steep hills. Building interiors are not included.

Reservation Info

The tour groups are limited to 20 people. A $5 donation is requested for adults.  There is no charge for children under 12 and members of the Echo Park Historical Society. Reservations are required. For more tour information please call (323) 860–8874 or click here to e-mail your reservation.

The tours are sponsored by the Echo Park Historical Society in partnership with the Citizens Committee to Save Elysian Park.
