Judge Supports EPHS in Lawsuit Against School District

The Los Angeles school district must conduct a full environmental review before it demolishes about two blocks of homes and businesses southeast of Sunset Boulevard and Alvarado Street. The EPHS and other members of the Right Site Coalition had opposed the school district plans for Site 9A because of the damage to historic resources, a sharp drop in enrollment and the availability of alternative sites. A judge from the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Norwalk issued the decision on Monday, Dec. 18 after a court hearing. The school project would require the demolition of more than 50 homes and apartments, which amounts to the single largest loss of homes in the area since the Chavez Ravine neighborhood was destroyed. Most of the residents have moved out of their homes under the threat of eminent domain. Read more about 9A
